The Nigerian Conservation Basis (NCF) in collaboration with the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and the Centre for Biodiversity Conservation Analysis (CBCR) in Ghana has awarded scholarship to 3 postgraduate college students of the College of Calabar.
The award is for a group conservation initiative to guard endangered Cross River gorilla, which can convey monumental ecotourism profit to the individuals of Cross River by means of preservation and conservation efforts of those species.
The beneficiaries are David Agabi-Eneji and Adekanmbi Adeyinka, who had been awarded with an M.Sc. scholarship for 2 years and Wilfred Ayambem, who was awarded a Ph.D scholarship for 3 years. These are the primary set of recipients out of the 5 college students that shall be beneficiaries from the five-year group conservation graduate pupil scholarship programme.
The scholarship covers registration and tuition charges, working and residing bills, lodging, discipline analysis bills, research supplies and gear. The programme, which is full-time entails a compulsory paid six-month internship on the NCF and obligatory one-month hands-on coaching throughout an trade go to to CBCR Ghana.
In 1987, NCF led a group to Afi Mountain in Cross River which led to the rediscovery of the Cross River gorilla which was hitherto thought-about extinct. Presently, NCF is working with Wilder Institute / Calgary Zoo, Canada; the Centre for Biodiversity Conservation Analysis, Ghana and College of Calabar on analysis that promotes the conservation of the Cross River gorilla.
