New GPUs replace GeForce MX150 and GeForce MX130
• They will be found in thin and light laptop
• Performance is considered to be better than Intel’s integrated GPU
Nvidia has published two new entry-level laptopGPUs, GeForce MX250 and GeForce MX230, which will replace current GeForce MX150and GeForce MX130.
The purpose of these GPUs is to provide better graphics power than the existing integrated GPUintroduced by Intel, but still the slots will be below the GeForce GTX 1050 and GeForce GTX 1050Ti gaming GPU.
The GeForce MX line is sufficient for basic game and 3D acceleration and it can usually be found in thin and lightweight laptops which can not accommodate large cooling mechanisms.
Two new models will soon be seen in laptops because Nvidia has made them public now.
GeForce MX250and GeForce MX230 are based on the previous-gen pascal architecture of Nvidia,which outlines the GeForce GTX 10-series desktop and mobile GPU.
Nvidiaclaims that compared to Intel’s UHD Graphics 620 integrated GPU, the performance of 3.5X and 2.6X for two new GPUs has increased, as has been tested on the Core i5-8265U CPU, which is the most recent Intel isk whiskey lake is one of the family processors.
Nvidia has not published what games or workloads were on those data, though.
There is no indication that how the new GPs got stacked against their predecessors.
Nvidia has not published any specifications, including core count, clock speed or memory configuration.
We only have a list of supported standards, including DirectX 12, Vulkan 1.1, OpenGL 4.6, and OpenCL 1.2. We also know that both GPUs use the PCIe 3.0 interface and will support GDDR5 memory.
Nvidia’s Optimus technology allows the laptop to switch between its integrated and discrete GPUs on the fly.
Laptopmanufacturers will mostly be able to configure some aspects of these GPUs, such as the speed of the maximum clock, and therefore Nvidiarecommends buyers to check the specificities that these companies publish.
The new GeForce MX250 and GeForce MX230 AMD will compete against the integrated Radeon Vega GPU, which are powerful enough for basic gaming.
After the recruitment of former AMD graphics chief King Koduri, Intel is also working on a major overhaul of its graphics capabilities. Intel has not made any ambiguity about its ambitions in integrated and discrete GPUmarkets and can soon turn into a disruptive third player.
The upcoming Gen11 iGPU is rumored to be much more powerful than the current Gen9 GPU, which has not been significantly advanced over the years.
